DAMASCUS: Syrian Army retakes Al-Qaryatain from ISIS days after of historic Palmyra take over.
Syrian Army has retaken ISIS held Christian town of al-Qaryatain with the support of Russian airstrikes days after the capturing of historic Palmyra.
Syrian state television said “The army and its allies fully restored security and stability to the town after killing the last remaining groups of Daesh terrorists in the town.”
Syrian army officials claimed that it was the last town under the strong hold of ISIS in the east of Homs province which was captured in August last year.
Officials claimed that they are working to clear the area from explosives planted in the town by ISIS.
Earlier this week, government forces recaptured the historic Palmyra from ISIS after a long battle with the support of Russian airstrikes and other fighter groups.
The city has ancient archeological sites which suffered a huge loss from ISIS during their control.
ISIS also beheaded hundreds of civilians including women, children and government officials in the city.
Syria is suffering from more than 5 years old war which has killed more than 260,000 people mostly civilians.
Country is now passing from a ceasefire which is the result of Syrian peace talks held in Munich in February.
