Congo Virus in Pakistan: Government measures to control Congo virus

ISLAMABAD (APP): Minister of State for National Health Services Saira Afzal Tarar Sunday said the government was taking measures to control Congo virus.

Taking cognizance of reports of Congo fever in Bahawalpur district, she said she had directed the National Institute of Health (NIH) to provide full support to Punjab Health Department in meeting the challenges.

Talking to a private news channel, the minister said some 50 samples of suspected Congo virus patients from Punjab were detected negative at the NIH. The process of Congo virus test takes some 24 hours, she added.

She said she had directed the Federal Epidemic Response Team to be on high alert and ready to be dispatched to the provinces in case there need be.

She said a special expert’s team was constituted and dispatched for epidemiological investigation in Punjab. The suspects should be monitored for fever twice in a day for consecutive 14 days and to report immediately to hospital in case of fever, she added.

Saira Afzal Tarar said some 2500 Personal Protective kits were sent to Bahawalpur and 1000 kits to Lodhran for doctors and paramedics.
