Dawn Leaks Report: Did PM Nawaz Sharif backtracked from his commitment with COAS

ISLAMABAD: The Dawn Leaks notification report rejection by the Pakistan Army speaks about the friction between the Pakistan Army and the incumbent government in Islamabad.
The notification rejection came in the backdrop of the commitments made by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif with the Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Bajwa.
Government and Pakistan Army had reached an agreement that the recommendations of the Dawn Leaks inquiry committee report would be followed in letter and spirit.
Earlier Pakistan Army rejected a notification from Prime Minister’s Office on Dawn Leaks.
Notification on Dawn Leaks is incomplete and not in line with recommendations by the inquiry board. Notification is rejected, DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor tweeted.
The government had set up the inquiry committee last year to probe the controversy surrounding a controversial report by daily Dawn about a key meeting on national security.
According to the notice issued by the government, PM Nawaz approved the inquiry committee’s recommendation to remove Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi from his post.
Allocation of portfolio of Foreign Affairs to Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, shall be withdrawn. Necessary notification in this regard should be issued forthwith, a notice issued by Secretary to the Prime Minister Fawad Hasan said.
