ISLAMABAD – Leading Islamic country Indonesia to impose jail term forhaving consensual sex outside marriage, media reports have revealed.
As per media report, Indonesia is set to impose jail terms or steep fineson anyone having consensual sex outside of marriage.
The legal reforms contain a long list of controversial provisions,including financial penalties for anyone found guilty of insulting thepresident’s dignity, prison sentences for women who have abortions outsideof medical emergencies, the censoring of contraceptive advice and theexpansion of blasphemy laws.
Rights groups have denounced the parliament’s planned legislation as anassault on basic freedoms at a time when fears are growing about the trendtowards restrictive religious piety and the spread of conservative Islam inthe world’s most populous Muslim country.
