Sindh Police senior officer sacked over serious misconduct

KARACHI: Sindh Police senior officer sacked over serious misconduct.

The Sindh police on Monday removed SSP-East Ghulam Azfar Mahesar from hispost on charges of “serious misconduct” and asked the chief secretary tosurrender his services to the federal government.

Tanveer Alam Odho, a PSP officer of BS-19, has been posted as the newSSP-East. He was currently serving as the principal of the Elite PoliceTraining Centre, Razzaqabad.

SSP Mahesar and his team came under the spotlight after the video of asuspected hitman — in which he was seen claiming to have met Sindh ChiefMinister Syed Murad Ali Shah while in Rangers’ captivity in 2017 — wentviral hours after Mr Mahesar announced his arrest at a press conference andclaimed that he was involved in 96 murders, mostly committed in the 1990s.

However, the startling claim made by the suspect, Yusuf alias Thelewala, inthe video forced Karachi police chief Additional Inspector General GhulamNabi Memon to set up an inquiry committee.

“I am directed to refer to the subject cited above and to state that theservices of retired Capt Ghulam Azfar Mahesar, PSP (BS-19) presently postedas SSP Dist/East, Karachi Range are no more required for SindhProvince/Sindh Police due to serious misconduct,” said a notificationissued by the Additional IG-Est­ablishment of the Sindh police.
