JERUSALEM – Israeli Foreign Minister postponed planned visit to IslamicCountry over security concerns.
Israel’s foreign minister has postponed a visit to Dubai this month due tosecurity concerns, diplomats said on Sunday, Reuters has reported.
Israel Katz, who doubles as intelligence minister, had been scheduled toattend mid-month meetings in the Gulf emirate ahead of its Expo 2020 Dubaibut “on the instruction of security officials” would defer the visit, anIsraeli diplomat said, without giving a new date.
Another diplomat, who also requested anonymity, said Israel was takingprecautions lest its arch-foe Iran try to target Katz as part ofretaliation against its US ally. The diplomat did not cite evidence toindicate any specific threat.
Decades-old hostilities between Tehran and Washington have boiled over inrecent weeks, with a US strike killing a senior Iranian commander and Iranfiring missiles at Iraqi airbases hosting US forces in response.
