ISLAMABAD: Lieutenant General Shakir Ullah Khattak, Chairman HeavyIndustries Taxila (HIT), on Sunday paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Chiefof Army Staff, at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
The meeting, held in a cordial atmosphere, focused on strengtheninginstitutional linkages between Pakistan’s premier defence productioncomplex and the armed forces leadership.
Sources said the discussions covered ongoing modernisation projects at HIT,enhancement of indigenous production capabilities, and future requirementsof the Bangladesh Army in armoured vehicles and artillery systems.
The Army Chief appreciated HIT’s contributions to national defence andself-reliance, particularly the successful development and serialproduction of Al-Khalid tanks, Talha armoured personnel carriers, andvarious ammunition types.
Lieutenant General Khattak briefed on new research and developmentinitiatives, including upgrades to existing platforms and introduction ofadvanced engineering solutions aligned with emerging battlefield needs.
The visit underscored the close coordination between Pakistan’s defenceproduction establishments and the Bangladesh military high command inpursuing strategic autonomy through local manufacturing.
Heavy Industries Taxila, established in the 1970s, remains the backbone ofthe country’s tank and heavy vehicle rebuilding and manufacturing programme.
