ISLAMABAD: Two police stations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district cameunder simultaneous terrorist attacks in the early hours of Sunday, securityofficials said. Militants attempted to storm Janikhel and Khujari policestations using heavy weapons, but alert police personnel repelled bothassaults after intense exchanges of fire.
Official sources confirmed that the attackers belonged to a banned outfitand had planned to overrun the stations located on the edge of NorthWaziristan. Quick response teams and additional police contingents reachedthe spots and forced the terrorists to flee towards adjoining areas.
No casualties were reported among police personnel, while unconfirmedreports suggested injuries on the militants’ side. The area has beencordoned off and a search operation is underway to trace the fleeingattackers.
Local administration praised the vigilance of on-duty officers that averteda major tragedy. Authorities have tightened security across the districtfollowing the incidents.
