ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on Friday that no datehas been finalised for a high-level Turkish delegation visit aimed atreducing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The announcement cameduring the weekly media briefing in Islamabad.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had claimed on November 9 that hisforeign minister, defence minister, and intelligence chief would visitPakistan this week to facilitate stalled ceasefire talks with Afghanistan. He described the mission as crucial for regional stability.
However, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi clarified that despitethe Turkish statement, no schedule has been mutually agreed upon. Heemphasised that the proposed visit remains under discussion throughdiplomatic channels.
When asked about reported behind-the-scenes mediation by Russia, Iran, andTurkey in Pakistan-Afghanistan talks, Andrabi acknowledged that severalcountries have offered good offices. Pakistan appreciates such initiativesbut considers detailed comments premature at this stage.
The spokesperson welcomed efforts by Ankara, Moscow, and Tehran to promotedialogue, adding that Islamabad remains committed to peace. He cautionedagainst attributing any delay in negotiations to Pakistan.
Diplomatic sources indicate that technical and security arrangements areamong factors affecting the visit timeline. Both Pakistan and Turkeycontinue coordination for an eventual high-level engagement.
