Pakistan and Egypt Enhance Defence Ties in High Level Talks

ISLAMABAD: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Sunday met Chief ofArmy Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir at the General Headquarters inRawalpindi, where the two leaders held in-depth discussions onstrengthening defence and security cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting focused on enhancing military exchanges, joint trainingprogrammes, and collaboration in areas critical to regional peace andstability, according to an official statement released by the Ministry ofForeign Affairs.

Both sides underscored the strategic importance of sustained high-levelengagement between the armed forces of Egypt and Pakistan, reaffirmingtheir commitment to deeper institutional ties.

Abdelatty, who arrived in Islamabad on Saturday night for a two-dayofficial visit, also called on President Asif Ali Zardari and helddelegation-level talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign MinisterMohammad Ishaq Dar earlier in the day.

The visit comes at a time when both nations seek to broaden bilateralcooperation in defence, counter-terrorism, and economic domains amidevolving regional security challenges.

Analysts view the high-level military diplomacy as a signal of growingstrategic alignment between Cairo and Islamabad, particularly in thebackdrop of shared concerns over maritime security and stability in theMiddle East and South Asia.

The Egyptian foreign minister’s trip marks the latest in a series ofexchanges aimed at translating longstanding fraternal relations intoconcrete security and defence partnerships.
