Is Nawaz Sharif replacing Shahbaz Sharif as new Prime Minister of Pakistan?

ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs RanaSanaullah has categorically stated that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz(PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif harbours no intention or desire to assume theoffice of prime minister again.

Speaking on ARY News programme “Khabar Kay Saath”, Mr Sanaullah emphasisedthat Mr Sharif is currently guiding both the party and the federal andPunjab governments while staying away from executive responsibilities.

He revealed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif remains ready to place thepremiership at the feet of his elder brother whenever required, but NawazSharif has shown no interest in returning to the top post.

Addressing recent remarks by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon about asupposed two-and-a-half-year power-sharing formula, the adviser dismissedthe claim as baseless, stating that the only understanding was that theparty with higher numbers would nominate the prime minister.

Mr Sanaullah highlighted that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) continues asa major coalition partner, noting that PML-N had offered PPP fifty percentcabinet positions during government formation, an offer the latter declined.

He praised the coalition’s stability and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’sefforts to improve governance despite challenges, adding that Nawaz Sharifhimself acknowledged the difficulty of effective administration in hisrecent remarks.

The adviser expressed confidence that the alliance among political partieswould continue successfully while the government remained answerable to thepublic.
