Senior TTP Commander Killed in North Waziristan Attack

ISLAMABAD: A senior commander of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), identified as Anas Torikhel and associated with the Fitna al-Khawarij faction, was killed on Wednesday evening in a targeted attack in Mirali Bazaar, North Waziristan.

Local security sources confirmed that unknown armed men opened fire on Torikhel while he was present in the crowded bazaar area. He received multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot before medical aid could reach him.

Anas Torikhel was considered a high-value target and was wanted by security forces in connection with several attacks on military and civilian targets in North Waziristan and adjoining areas. He had recently been active in recruiting and planning operations against state institutions.

The attackers managed to flee the scene soon after the shooting. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the assassination, though such targeted killings in the region are often linked to internal rifts or rival militant factions.

The incident occurred amid intensified counter-terrorism operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and tribal districts, where security forces have eliminated dozens of TTP militants in recent months. Residents reported heavy presence of security personnel in Mirali following the attack.

North Waziristan remains a focal point of anti-terrorist activities as the military continues its drive against remnants of terrorist networks. The killing of Torikhel is likely to disrupt TTP operations in the area in the short term.
