WASHINGTON: Pakistan will get nine AH-1Z Viper Attack Helicopters worth $170 million from US.
The AH-1Z is a twin engine combat chopper based on Super Cobra model capable of 420 KM/hour top speed with a range of 610 km.
The contract has been awarded to Bell Helicopter Textron Inc. and delivery is expected in September 2018.
US Defence Ministry said “The contract awarded for the manufacturing and delivery of nine AH-1Z aircraft and nine auxiliary fuel kits for the government of Pakistan is expected to be completed in September 2018.”
Defence Security Cooperation Agency said “This proposed sale of helicopters and weapon systems will provide Pakistan with military capabilities in support of its counter terrorism and counter-insurgency operations in South Asia.”
US also approved a deal for selling eight F-16 jets to Pakistan worth $700 million.
India protested against this move and also summoned US ambassador in India over the sale of F-16 jets to Pakistan but US refused it.
