Israeli Forces routinely abuse and maltreat Palestinian prisoners: Israeli NGOs

JERUSALEM: Two Israeli NGOs claimed that Israeli forces routinely abuses and maltreat Palestinian prisoners during interrogation.

The NGOs issued a report based on the interviews of 116 suspects imprisoned at Shikma prison in the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon.

The report claimed that authorities conduct an unlawful interrogation from detainees which includes exposure of extreme heat and cold, sleep deprivation and bounding hand and foot to a chair for long time.

The report said “The combination of conditions both in and outside the interrogation room constitutes abuse and inhuman, degrading treatment, at times even amounting to torture.”

The report also claimed that same interrogation was also conducted at other centers and it seems to be an official interrogation policy.

A Shin Bet spokesmen denied the statement and claimed that all interrogation is conducted according to the law.

He claimed that the report is misleading and distorted and all the activities are conducted to prevent any harm to the security of state.

He claimed that the Palestinians interrogated at Shikma are terror suspects.
