Afghan Police Commander killed in a suicide attack by Taliban

PUL-I-ALAM: Five Afghan Police (ALP) personnel have been killed, includingtheir commander, as a result of a bomb explosion in central Logar province,an official said on Monday, Pajhwok news has reported.

Salim Saleh, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News theexplosion took place in the Ghondai village of Mohammad Agha district lateon Sunday.

He said five ALP members, including commander Faqeer Ahmad, were killedwhen their vehicle struck a remote-controlled roadside bomb.

Jamshed, a resident of the area, claimed six policemen had been killed inthe blast. “Police frequented the route, on which militants plantedexplosives. However, forces could not reach the site in time.”

Meanwhile, the Taliban link> confirmed theincident. The group’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed Taliban hadplanted the mine. Commander Faqeer and six others were killed and sixweapons captured by the fighters, he concluded.
