KABUL – The Afghan armed forces launched a large-scale operation againstthe militant groups in northern Baghlan province of Afghanistan to suppressthe militants who are attempting to expand their activities in thisprovince, Khaama Press has reported.
The 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan military in the North said theoperations, Alburz-22, were launched earlier today in Dand-e-Shahabuddinarea.
A statement by the Shaheen Corps said the Afghan forces are currenlyconducting clearance and search operations in Baba Nazar and Khalazayivillages.
In the meantime, the Shaheen Corps said the anti-government armed militantshave suffered heavy casualties during the operations in Kohistan districtof Faryab.
According to the Shaheen Corps, several militants were killed or woundedduring the airstrikes and efforts are underway to obtain furtherinformation regarding the casualties of the militants.
The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgentshave not commented regarding the reports so far.
This comes as the Shaheen Corps said Saturday that at least two Talibaninsurgents were killed and three others were wounded in the airstrikes inQaisar district.
Faryab is among the relatively volatile provinces in northern parts of thecountry where the anti-government armed militants are actively operating ina number of its districts.
Several militants including key members and commanders of theanti-government armed militants were killed in similar operations in thisprovince earlier this month.
