ISLAMABAD: Director-General (DG) Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR)Major General Asif Ghafoor has responded straight forward to the threatsand allegations levelled by the US President Donald Trump.
DG ISPR on Wednesday said no amount of coercion can dictate Pakistan how tocontinue.
“No amount of coercion can dictate us how to continue,” he said in anexclusive interview with Geo News. “Cooperative engagement can take usforward but coercion won’t help.”
In response to a questionabout the tough statements from theUS and thecountry not willing to consider Pakistan a friend and ally, the DG ISPRsaid that Pakistan continues to consider the US an ally.
“As far as Pakistan is concerned, we consider them allies.Our relationshiphas had its ups and downs but still, we are friends,” Major General Ghafoorsaid.
He continued to say that Pakistan and the United States have a history ofcooperation.
“We had a choice at one point oftimewhen we could have opted for the Unionof Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) but we preferred theUS instead,” hesaid.
“We have a very long list of occasions when we cooperated with theUS but onthe other hand, there were many times when the US didn’t support us,” saidthe DG ISPR. “Our relationship has had its ups and downs but we continue tobe friends.”
