NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has refuted the impressionthat Indian foreign policy is Pakistan focused. Contrary to the fact thatIndian foreign policy main pillar revolves around Pakistan and its utmostefforts which have miserably failed were to isolate Pakistan in the world.
Modi said that to assume the country’s foreign policy revolves aroundPakistan would be a “grave injustice” to India. He instead said India’sforeign policy was “issue-based.”
“India’s foreign policy is based in the context of India. India’s foreignpolicy is based in the context of its relations with the world. It isissue-based. Our foreign policy is not based around one nation and itshouldn’t be,” Modi said in an interview to Times Now.
He added that India was not working to isolate one nation, but that”whoever takes a step against terrorism, I will welcome them and praisethem.”
The PM also noted that the world was uniting against terrorism, and likenedthe fight against terror to a fight to save humanity.
“Humanity is in great danger and to save humanity, it is important forpowers that believe in humanitarian values to unite. I believe this fightis about saving humanity and nothing can be a bigger soft power than this.You have to unite those who believe in humanitarian values, only then canyou isolate terrorists and defeat terrorism,” he said.
Responding to a question on whether dialogue may be the way forward in thefight against terror – in the context of the appointment of an interlocutorin Jammu and Kashmir – the PM said that “dialogue does take place withevery citizen of India, and it will continue to take place.”
He reiterated his government’s support for “those who believe in theconstitution of India and for those who live and die for the nation.”
Modi invited Pakistan to join hands with India to fight poverty anddisease. He also had a message for Pakistan and its people: “If we fighttogether, we will win faster.”
It has also underscored the need for the neighbouring country to stopdifferentiating between good and bad terrorists.
