link>KABUL- The cracks appear to be widening inside the Afghanistan unity governmentas now a demand has arisen for the resignation of the Afghan PresidentAshraf Ghani and the Afghan CEO Abdullah Abdullah.

The chief executive of Jamiat-e-Islami Ata Mohammad Noor has said he isready to step down from the political administration of the northern Balkhprovince only if President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and chief executiveAbdullah Abdullah resign from their posts, Khaama Press has reported.

Speaking during a gathering in Mazar-e-Sharif city late on Saturdayafternoon, Noor accused President Ghani for his failure to implement theaccord for the formation of the government of national unity, in which heconsiders himself as a major stakeholder.

Noor said he and his supporters will adopt tougher stance against thegovernment and will initially launch uprising if the talks fail but warnedthat the situation could get tougher if the stalemate continues as hewarned that lock down the cities and districts, including the governmentoffices.

Tensions remain high between Jamiat-e-Islami and the government afterPresident Mohammad Ashraf Ghani approved the resignation of Ata MohammadNoor as the Balkh governor almost a month ago.

Noor says he had submitted his resignation as a guarantee to the governmentthat he will step down if the demands of Jamiat-e-Islami are met by thegovernment.

However, he says the government has approved his resignation asnegotiations were underway insisting that none of the conditions anddemands of the party have been met.

In the meantime, the US Ambassador to Afghanistan John Bass on Thursdaycalled for the peaceful settlement of the tensions relating to the transferof the authority in Balkh province, emphasizing that only the terroristswould benefit from the political instability in the country.
