Indian Army camp attack in occupied Kahsmir responsibility claimed, reveals Indian media

SRINAGAR – Lashkar-e-Taiba on Monday claimed responsibility for the IndianArmy Camp attack and Karan Nagar attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, ANIreported.

Three militants involved in the Sunjwan camp attack were killed in theretaliatory action by the Army inside the camp and a large quantity of armsand ammunition was seized from them.

A group of heavily armed men struck the sprawling camp of the 36 brigade ofthe Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry before dawn on February 10, 2018. FiveArmy men, including two Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), were martyredin the attack.

Meanwhile, a paramilitary trooper was killed after a failed terror bid on aCRPF camp in Srinagar on Monday.

The trooper was wounded in the shootout as the security forces prepared fora final assault against the holed-up militants, a police officer said, asper IANS.

He was shifted to the nearby SMHS hospital, barely 300 metres away from thesite of the gunfight, and died later.

Kashmir police chief SP Vaid in a tweet said, “I congratulate alert CRPFsentry for averting suicidal attack in Karan Nagar.”

Earlier around 4.30 am on Monday, two militants were spotted by an alertsentry at the observation post of 23rd battalion of the CRPF in Karan Nagararea.

The two were forced to flee as the alert sentry fired at them. Searches inthe area revealed that militants carrying backpacks and AK-47 rifles hadtaken shelter in a building near the CRPF camp, which was then surrounded.

After the hiding militants were challenged, they fired at the securityforces triggering a gunfight.

The latest attack on the Army camp took place nearly 15 months after theJammu region was hit by a similar attack.

The last attack in the Jammu region had taken place on November 29, 2016,when militants had stormed the Army’s Nagrota camp on the outskirts ofJammu city, killing seven Army personnel including two officers.
