PESHAWAR – A key trade route between Afghanistan and Pakistan is set toreopen in a couple of days after four years of closure, says an official.
The Ghulam Khan crossing-point in North Waziristan Agency, one of the sevennotified trade routes with Afghanistan, was shut in 2014.
With the launch of a military offensive against terrorists by the PakistanArmy in the region, the route between the neighbouring countries was closed.
The route would be reopened for bilateral trade for a fortnight on a trialbasis with effect from March 7, the area administrator told businesspeoplein Miranshah.
Assistant Political Agent Taimur Khan Afridi said a 15-truck convoy ladenwith export items would leave Miranshah for southeastern Khost province onWednesday.
Similarly, the official said, vehicles carrying trade items would alsoenter Pakistan through the Ghulam Khan check-post.
Security forces and the local administration had put in place the required,he said, hinting at the opening of the route permanently.
