KABUL – *Following deadly attack by Taliban at Military Base that killed atleast 20 soldiers during a nigh raid the talks of Taliban capturing anotherprovince in the country have emerged strongly. *
*Civil society activists and residents of Farah province worry about thedeteriorating security situation of Farah City, Ariana News Agency hasreported.*
Criticizing the government for lack of security plans to wipe out theinsurgents, the residents claim the provincial capital is under the threatof the Taliban militants.
“The government officials are wasting the resources, they are having luxurylives,” Mohammad Omar, a resident of Farah said.
Security in Farah province has deteriorated over the past two years.Taliban fighters have reached close to the city.
“Definitely, the [city] will not collapse to the hand of the enemies,because enough units are stationed in the province,” said Dawlat Waziri,the Ministry of Defense Spokesman. We have planned new military operationsto improve the situation of the province,” said Najib Danish, the Ministryof Interior Spokesman.
Earlier, Farah security officials have accused Iran for supporting theTaliban in the province by providing them funds and weapons. The provinceis located in the west of Afghanistan, bordering Herat province where TAPI,one of the biggest economical projects, was inaugurated on Friday.
