UNHRC commissioner regrets India s human rights violations in occupied Kashmir

GENEVA – The UN High Commissioner on Human Rights has regretted India’sdenial of unconditional access to UN human rights investigators to OccupiedKashmir.

In its annual report, it noted with concern that discrimination andviolence against minorities particularly against Muslims, is rising inIndia and is being actively endorsed by local or religious officials.

According to press release issued by Foreign Office today, Pakistan raisedthe issue of India’s grave human rights violations in Occupied Jammu andKashmir during 37th Session of UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, whichdiscussed the report.

Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative Tahir Andrabi called on India tostop killing Kashmiris and end the impunity of its security forces andallow access to UN Fact Finding Team to investigate human rights violationsin Occupied Kashmir.

He said India’s denial of access to the UN Fact Finding Team is a desperateattempt to hide its atrocities in the most militarized zone of the world.

He said India must end its illegal occupation and resolve the Kashmirdispute in accordance with wishes of Kashmiri people as laid down innumerous UN Security Council resolutions.

Later, replying to the Indian statement, Pakistan stated that Kashmiris`struggle for right to self-determination cannot be dubbed as terrorism.
