ISLAMABAD- Naval Chief Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi has reached Iran toattend the 6th Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) which began in Tehran onMonday.

The Indian Ocean Naval Symposium is a series of biennial meetings amongmember countries to discuss matters pertaining to maritime security in theIndian Ocean region.

IONS 2018 consists of 23 permanent members and 9 observers.

Naval Chief Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi will also hold meetings withIranian high officials and services chiefs.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of Symposium, the Iranian Navy commanderRear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi described the maritime security as a globalissue which will guarantee nations’ maritime interests.
