Afghan Police top commander killed in Taliban attack

KABUL – *Mohammad Halim Khanjar, police chief of Chahar Bolak district ofnorthern Balkh province died on Saturday night, after being wounded on thebattlefield, officials said on Sunday*, TOLO News has reported.

Khanjar was injured in a clash with Taliban insurgents on Saturday inChahar Bolak after the insurgents attacked the district, a spokesman forthe provincial police chief Mohammad Shirjan Durani said.

“The Taliban also suffered heavy casualties in the attack,” Durani said.

However, he did not provide further details about the clash.

In the meantime, officials at Mazar-e-Sharif city hospital also confirmedthat the body of a local police chief, named Almas, and seven woundedpeople were taken to the hospital.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
