Indian Apex Defence Committee discuss Pakistan India border

NEW DELHI – The newly formed Defence Planning Committee (DPC)- an apex bodyheaded by the National Security Advisor Ajit Doval comprising the threeservice chiefs, Foreign and Defence Secretary and Secretary Expenditure metfor the first time.

The DPC was formed this month to bring in more synergy and cohesion inIndia’s strategic planning. The DPC is also mandated to decide onstrategies for India’s internal and external security and foreign policy aswell, India today has reported.

In its first meeting, the committee deliberated on the geo-strategicsituation and India’s immediate neighbourhood. The committee also discussedthe situation along India-Pakistan and India-China border as well.

Prime Minister Modi recently met the Chinese President Xi Jinping at aninformal summit in Wuhan. The two leaders, among other things, decided toensure peace tranquility along the borders.

The undemarcated India-China border has seen a sharp rise in number oftransgressions. Last year, the two sides were locked in a 72-day stand-offwith the two militaries deployed eye-ball to eye-ball.

Days after informal summit between the two leaders, New Delhi asked allformations along the Line of Actual Control, the defacto boundary betweenthe two countries, not to be aggressive when patrolling.
