LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly has made a new world record by passing 12 billsin just 45 minutes during the Punjab Assembly last session on Wednesday.

It cleared the government’s list of legislation before the completion ofits tenure on May 31.

And while doing so the treasury members braved the suffocating heat in thehouse caused by a lack of internal arrangements to run air-conditioningsystem during the prolonged power breakdown that hit Punjab and KhyberPakhtunkhwa.

Fanning themselves with copies of the agenda they also successfully tackledthree attempts by the opposition to obstruct the legislation by calling outshort quorum.

Earlier, a pandemonium was witnessed in the very beginning of the sessionwhen the opposition members led by Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed came closer tothe rostrum of Speaker Rana Iqbal, raising slogans against the Sharifbrothers and demanding punishment for ousted premier Nawaz Sharif on thecharge of committing sedition.

They torn apart copies of the day’s agenda and tossed the pieces into theair, also blaming the government for the country-wide power breakdown. MrRasheed said it was failure of the government which had been bragging aboutproducing surplus electricity in the country.
