SRINAGAR – A road accident has become a new bone of contention between theCRPF and the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police.
Nineteen CRPF men were injured, one of them seriously, when their vehicleturned turtle near Bemina in the outskirts of Srinagar on Sunday morning.While the CRPF claimed that the driver lost control after a mob ofstone-pelters attacked the vehicle, the J&K police said there was nostone-pelting in the area at the time.
Inspector General of CRPF, Srinagar Sector, Ravideep Sahi said the accidentoccurred around 5 am. “Around 5 to 10 people threw stones on the ourvehicle, causing the driver to lose control,” he said.
All the injured were shifted to a hospital from where some of them werereferred to the Army hospital. The seriously injured CRPF trooper wasairlifted to Delhi.
Refuting the CRPF claims, the police said CCTV footage from nearby areasshowed there was no stone-pelting when the accident happened.
This is not the first time differences of opinion have surfaced between thetwo forces. CRPF figures recently revealed there have been 21 incidents ofstone-pelting in the first three days of Ramzan ceasefire in which three ofits personnel were injured. Police figures, however, said there have beenonly six incidents in the first five days of ceasefire.
