Foreign Office hints at Pakistan s conditional removal from FATF greylist

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office on Thursday said that Pakistan can be removedfrom the Financial Action Task Force’s grey-list of countries if adequatemeasures are taken.

“We will have to ensure the implementation of the action plan shared withFATF while we are on the grey-list,” FO spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisalsaid during a weekly press briefing in Islamabad.

“If adequate measures are taken, we can be removed from the grey-list,” hesaid adding that otherwise the country will “face problems”.

“Earlier we were also removed from the grey-list after we took adequatemeasures,” Faisal continued.

“We are in talks with the FATF over the plan of action.”

The FO spokesperson upheld, “We were told in February that we will beplaced on the grey-list.”link>link>

Pakistan was added to the global money-laundering watchdog’s grey listafter a FATF meeting in Paris confirmed the decision on Wednesday.
