Pakistan NSA General (R) Naseer Janjua resigns

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s National Security Adviser (NSA) Lt. General (retd)Nasser Khan Janjua on Wednesday tendered his resignation from the post.

Janjua’s resignation has been accepted by the Caretaker Prime MinisterJustice (retd) Nasir-ul-Mulk.

Nasser Janjua, a retired three-star rank general in Pakistan army, had beenserving as the national security adviser since October 23, 2015 after hereplaced Sartaj Aziz for the Office.

Prior to his retirement from Pakistan army in October 2015, Nasser Janjuaheld the post of Southern Command Quetta.

While being in military services, Lt General (retd) Nasser Janjua wasappointed as the Vice-Chief of General Staff at army’s general headquarters(GHQ) in Rawalpindi in 2011.

He was also appointed in 2012 as the president of the Islamabad-basedNational Defence University (NDU), the military’s higher educationinstitute and premier think-tank on national security matters.

Nasser Janjua has also worked on ‘Azm-i-Nau,’ a military preparednessexercise that had a particular focus on India.

Following his appointment as the Country’s National Security Adviser,Nasser Janjua played a very proactive role with reference to furtherstrengthening Pakistan’s bilateral relations with Central Asian Republics(CARs).

He also held the first ever conference of Central Asian States in Islamabadto tap regional opportunities.

General Janjua during his tenure made the National Security Division (NSD)an institution by forming its first ever Advisory Board comprising of topthink tanks of the Country. The inaugural meeting of board was held onApril 5, 2018.

Lt General (retd) Nasser Janjua would be remembered for breaking ice withthe Afghan leadership and for regaining mutual trust between Islamabad andKabul.
