Afghan Intelligence NDS regional head killed: Sources

ISLAMABAD – Afghan Intelligence, National Directorate of Security (NDS)Chief in western Farah province of Afghanistan has been gunned down.

Provincial governor’s spokesman Mohammad Nasir Mehri confirmed that unknowngunmen shot dead the intelligence chief of the 5th police district of thecity earlier today, Khaama Press has reported.

He said the incident took place before noon in the vicinity of the 3rdpolice district of the city after unknown gunmen opened fire on Mr. YasinKhan.

Mehri further added that Khan lost his life in the attack and theassailants managed to flee the area after the attack.

The governor’s spokesman also added that an investigation is underwayregarding the killing of the intelligence official.

No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility behind theincident.

Farah is among the relatively calm provinces in West of Afghanistan wherefewer security related incidents have taken place since the fall of theTaliban regime.

However, the anti-government armed militants have been attempting to expandtheir foothold and destabilize the province during the recent months andyears.
