Pakistan fights it s case in FATF plenary session

ISLAMABAD: A Pakistani delegation led by interim Finance Minister ShamshadAkhter is in Paris to present Pakistan’s case before the Financial ActionTask Force (FATF) during a meeting on Monday.

Akhter will apprise the anti-terror financing body of measuresthat Pakistan has taken to stop money laundering and strangling the terrorfinancing.

As a part of efforts to implement the FATF counter-terrorist financingoperational plan adopted in February this year, on June 20, the Securitiesand Exchange Commission of Pakistan issued the ‘Anti Money Laundering andCountering Financing of Terrorism Regulations 2018’.

Last week, the interim finance minister said that the ministry has improvedinstitutional mechanisms for handling anti-money laundering and counteringfinancing terrorism issues. Coordination between the State Bank, Bankinginstitutions and law enforcement agencies has also been strengthened tocurb money laundering and terror financing, she added.

FATF had decided to put Pakistan on the anti-terror financing watchdog’sgrey list during a plenary meeting in February this year.
