Largest ever defence deal between Pakistan and Turkey

*ANKARA/ISLAMABAD: In what is being seen as Ankara’s largest single defensesale, Turkey has agreed to sell Pakistan 30 Turkish-made attackhelicopters.*

Radio Free Europe citing Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency reportedthat on July 13 the deal for the sale of Turkey’s T129 ATAK helicopters wassigned between Turkish Aerospace Industries and the Pakistani DefenseProduction Ministry.

According to a political manifesto unveiled by Turkish President RecepTayyip Erdogan, Pakistan and Turkey recently agreed on terms on the largestever defence contract signed between the two countries.

Turkey would also provide logistics, spare parts, training, and ammunition,Anadolu reported.

The agency did not say how much the deal was worth. But Turkish mediareports put the value at around $1.5 billion.

On July 5, Turkish Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli said Ankara will sellfour 99.5-meter-long indigenous corvette warships to the Pakistani Navy.

TAI, maker of the T129 under license from the Italian-BritishAgustaWestland, has so far delivered 35 T129s to the Turkish Army and theGendarmerie force.
