ISLAMABAD – Pakistani scientist, Muhammad Waqas Usman Hingoro, hassuccessfully discovered the cancer-killing mechanism that can be applied tothe treatment of a wide-range of cancer types.
Based out of Lyari, Karachi, Umsan along with his team of InternationalCancer Biologists has discovered the ability of ‘Extracellular Vesicles(EVs),’ the component of red blood cells, which may carry drug deliverynanoparticles (NPs) into the affected or diseased human body site as wellas the whole organism.
According to his Ph.D. research work defended in the City University ofHong Kong, these extracellular vesicles are endogenous carriers which havethe capacity to successfully deliver different types of drugs, either inthe form of RNA, protein or the DNA and can be effectively used to target avariety of cancers.
His research paper titled “Efficient RNA drug delivery using red bloodcell-extracellular vesicles”link> has recently beenpublished in the latest edition of the world’s leading science journalknown as “Nature Communication.”
Born and raised in Lyari, Hingoro got his Bachelor’s Degree in ClinicalLaboratory in 2010 from the Z.A. School of Medical Technology in Karachi. After completing graduation, he joined the Aga Khan University Hospital andadvanced his research work under the supervision of Dr Javed Yakoob andsuccessfully published a number of his research papers ininternationally-reputed scientific journals.
In 2013, he received the Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) for aMaster’s program and was later selected as a Fulbright Ph.D. candidate bythe City University of Hong Kong (CityU), where Hingoro carried out hisgroundbreaking study under the supervision of Dr. Minh TN Le.
Hingoro has made Pakistan proud with his breakthrough research and broughtrecognition to the scientific talent of the country.
