ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ikramullah Khan Gandapurand his driver were martyred in a suicide attack targeting the PK-99candidate’s convoy on the outskirts of Dera Ismail Khan on Sunday.

According to DPO Zahoor Khan Afridi, Gandapur was on his way to a cornermeeting when the suicide explosion took place near his vehicle in Kolachiarea critically injuring him, his driver, two policemen and two others.

He confirmed that Gandapur and his driver, Ramzan, succumbed to injuriessustained in the attack while others wounded in the blast are receivingmedical treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH). The PTI leader’sbody has been moved to District Hospital Dera for postmortem.

The DPO added that the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Police had assigned 13 gunmen forthe PTI leader’s security, however, he chose to travel without alertinglocal authorities. The security forces had conveyed death threats toGandapur on Saturday.

Gandapur served as minister for agriculture and livestock in during PTI’stenure in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). His brother, Israrullah Gandapur, whoserved as law minister was killed in a bomb blast at their residence inOctober 2013.
