ANKARA – Isa Kaya, new Imam of Turkish Masque, realised that previouscongregants had been offering prayers in the wrong directions for 37 years, reported Turkish media.
According to Turkish media, there was a mistake during the construction ofa mosque in Sugoren, western Yalova province, in 1981, due to which theKaaba s direction went wrong.
According to the report, the Imam Isa Kaya, who was appointed last year, mentioned this mistake and decided to take advice from local Mufti.
The officials confirmed the niche, Mihrab, had been constructed in thewrong place when the mosque was built in 1981, it was reported.
Rather than tear down the niche immediately, the Imam used a temporarymeasure to point people in the right direction with the white tape on thecarpet of the mosque.
“We have explained the situation to our congregation and most of them havereacted positively to our solution,” the imam told Demiroren News Agency.
