ROME – Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa called on theItalian Defence Minister, the Chief of Italian Army and the SecretaryGeneral of Defence here and discussed enhancement in bilateral defence andsecurity cooperation including potential joint initiatives.
The Italian leadership was highly appreciative of the role played byPakistan in regional stability and also towards global security, said apress release issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Wednesday.
They maintained that Pakistan was well on its way towards a prosperousfuture and that Italy and Pakistan would benefit by building on theexisting relationship between the two countries. Asked about the successformula in the war against terrorism, the Army Chief said that it was dueto the spirit of sacrifice and support of the nation, especially the peopleof tribal areas and the families of ‘Shuhada’ and ‘Ghazis.’
He said that though the fight was still on, Pakistan had emerged strongerfrom the tribulations. He said that today’s Pakistan was open to the worldand the government was looking for peace within and peace without toprovide its people the prosperity they deserved after the difficult times.
During the visit, the COAS was also presented demonstrations of Italiandefence capabilities both for land and amphibious operations. He alsointeracted with representatives of Pakistani community and the Italiandefenceindustry.
The COAS is returning to Pakistan later Wednesday after completing hisvisits to the United Kingdom and Italy. – APP
