ISLAMABAD – Azerbaijan is ready to offer $100 million credit to Pakistan toaddress its energy issues along with supplying of oil and oil products.Ambassador of Azerbaijan Ali Alizada made this offer during a meeting withFederal Minister for Information & Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain atthe latter’s office.
The ambassador also showed his keen interest to strengthen cooperation inthe fields of media and information with particular emphasis on formalcollaboration between state run televisions of the two countries.
Information Minister while welcoming the Ambassador’s offer and interest toresolve Pakistan’s energy issues said that Pakistan would also like toenhance cooperation with Azerbaijan in the realm of tourism besides in thefields of media and information. Pakistan had unique tourist destinationsespecially in Northern areas and “we will also want that Azeri touristscome and enjoy scenic beauty of these high altitude areas”, he added.
The minister said Pakistan attached great importance to its relations withAzerbaijan and Pakistan was one of the first three countries thatrecognized independence of Azerbaijan. He said that Baku was highly popularwith Pakistan and it was a matter of satisfaction that there existedtremendous goodwill between the two countries. He emphasized the need forstart of direct flights between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
Fawad said, “We will welcome the exchange of media delegations of the twocountries as it will provide an opportunity to know more about each others’land, people and countries and learn by sharing experiences.” Theambassador invited the minister to attend the Baku InternationalHumanitarian Forum to be held in last week of October, and said Azerbaijanconsidered Pakistan an important country.
