Shahbaz Sharif shifted to jail on judicial remand

LAHORE – PML N President and Opposition Leader in National Assembly hasbeen shifted to jail on accountability court orders.

The Accountability Court on Thursday ordered that Pakistan MuslimLeague-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif, who has been arrested inconnection to the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme case, be sent to jail.

Shehbaz, who has been in National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) custodysince October 5 in connection to the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme case, waspresented before an accountability court in Lahore as his physical remandended today.

As the hearing went under way, NAB sought an extension in Shehbaz’s remand.However, the NAB prosecutor failed to provide satisfactory answers afterwhich the court rejected the NAB’s request for a further extension inShehbaz’s remand and ordered that he be sent to jail.

Earlier, a large number of PML-N workers had gathered outside the courtpremises and tried to remove the barriers at which the police baton chargedthem.
