ISLAMABAD – Supreme Court has decided not to close the Asghar Khan caseagainst dolling out money to politicians in the 1990 general election andtake it to its logical end.
The order was passed by a three-member bench of the Apex court headed byChief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar while hearing the case in Islamabad onFriday.
At the very outset of the proceedings, FIA pleaded for closing the case dueto absence of solid evidence and some technical reasons.
Director General FIA told the court that the agency carried outinvestigation against ten politicians as per its mandate.The courtexpressed dissatisfaction over FIA’s justification for closing the case.
The court sought a reply from FIA over an application of the Asghar Khan’sfamily seeking continuity of the case for a logical conclusion. It alsoordered the Secretary Defence to submit his reply within a week.
The Chief Justice asked the senior lawyer Salman Akram Raja to assist thecourt for further proceeding the case. The case has now been adjourned till25th of this month.The apex court in its judgment of 2012 in the case haddeclared the 1990 elections as rigged and ordered the FIA, to initiate aninquiry against those who had given the money and those who had acceptedthe money.
