ISLAMABAD – European Union and International Union for Conservation ofNature (IUCN) have agreed to work in Balochistan in Water Conservationprojects.
This was told by EU Ambassador to Pakistan Jean-Francois Cautaian and IUCNCountry Representative Mahmood Akhtar Cheema who called on Advisor to PrimeMinister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam.
Under the agreement European Union will provide forty million Euros andIUCN will provide technical and human resource assistance.The Advisorbriefed the delegation about the Ministry of Climate Change performance inenvironmental protection and conservation and apprised them the” RechargePakistan Project ” which aims at raising the under water table byconserving flood water in the right and left bank of Indus Riverreservoirs, that water could be utilised for domestic as well ashorticulture purposes.
European Union Ambassador to Pakistan Mr. Jean-Francois Cautaian contouredthat in partnership with IUCN, the EU will sponsor 40 million Euro waterconservation projects in Balochistan.
The project with multipurpose targets will increase water reservoirs,program for community awareness in utilising minimum water, usingalternative methods in irrigation and farming and promoting live stockinvestment.
Country Representative Mr. Mahmood Akhtar Cheema said that IUCN is workingin natural resource management , water resource management and communityawareness and involvement in water conservation..
