FATF Asia Pacific Group responds over Pakistan reports on counter financial terrorism measures

ISLAMABAD – The Asia Pacific Group (APG) of the Financial Action Task Force(FATF) has expressed satisfaction over the measures taken by Pakistan tocurb terror financing and money laundering.

It has submitted a report in this regard to the International Country RiskGuide (ICRG). The ICRG will mull over the APG’s reply for five days andwill then submit its recommendations before the task force.

The FATF will gather again in May to review the recommendations regardingthe removal of the South Asian country from the greylist. Notably, Pakistanis not a member of the FATF, but its delegation will be there at the venueto answer the queries regarding the actions taken as per the 27 pointsgiven by the task force.——————————

The government is quite hopeful to get a favorable review, as severalEuropean countries have assured their support in the final meeting of theFATF.

The countries believe that Pakistan has implemented the FATFrecommendations regarding the prevention of terror financing and currencysmuggling from the borders, airports, and coastal belt and has improvedmonitoring of bank transactions.
