Pakistan converts indigenous built JF 17 fighter jet into a fourth generation fighter equivalent to upgraded F 16s: Report

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Air Force is converting the indigenous built JF 17fighter jet into a fourth generation fighter equivalent to the upgradedF-16 fighter jet.

JF-17 Thunder fighter jet is about to get a major upgrade.

The upgraded version of Pakistan-China co-developed fighter jet isundergoing development and production.

A Chinese legislator and a chief designer of the fighter jet, Yang Wei, hasrevealed that JF-17 Block 3 will have enhanced informatized warfarecapability and weapons.

He revealed this development in a press conference. According to a source,the JF-17 Block 3 will have an active electronically scanned array (AESA)radar and a helmet-mounted sight (HMS) system. The AESA radar will augmentthe jet’s capability, enabling it to engage from a longer range and attackmultiple targets.——————————

The HMS system will allow pilots to aim anything in his/her sight.Moreover, the new variant of the JF-17 family will allow informationsharing between the fighter and other platforms. This will increase theefficacy of the entire combat system in defending against strongadversaries.

Moreover, the new upgrade will bring JF-17 Block 3 to be a close match ofan improved version of the F-16 fighter jet.

The JF-17 thunder is generally dubbed as an advanced as well as acost-effective fighter. As of last year, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) possessed100 JF-17 fighters in its fleet.
