KABUL – Afghanistan government has expressed frustration over success of US- Afghan Taliban direct talks minus the government.
Mohammad Umer Daudzai, President Ashraf Ghani’s Special Representative onRegional Affairs for Consensus on Peace, on Tuesday reiterated that the UScannot reach an agreement with the Taliban about the withdrawal of foreignforces from Afghanistan and that troop pullout will be tackled in line withthe Afghan-US security pact.
The US has reached a consensus about troop withdrawal with the Afghangovernment, Daudzai said.
“The US cannot reach an understanding with the Taliban on whether to keepits troops in Afghanistan, because the US is in Afghanistan in line withthe security agreement which was signed with the Afghan government in2014,” said Daudzai, referring to the Bilateral Security Agreement commonlyknown as (BSA) sealed between the US and Afghanistan in 2014, only few daysafter President Ashraf Ghani assumed his office.
Daudzai, who has been assigned by President Ghani to organize the peaceJirga, said that holding the planned consultative Jirga on peace will takesome time and that a final date for the assembly will be determined in thenear future.
