BEIJING – China says it will keep up a reasonable and appropriate increasein defense spending to satisfy its national security and military reforms.

A government spokesman Zhang Yesui stated this today, ahead of the releaseof the country’s defense budget.

He said China’s limited defense spending is aimed to protect its securityneeds and sovereignty and it will not threaten other countries.
