SRINAGAR – In occupied Kashmir, Indian authorities have imposed curfew inNowhatta area of Srinagar and stringent restrictions in other parts ofcity, today (Friday) to prevent people from staging demonstrations againstinjuring of detainees at Srinagar Central Jail by Indian forces’ personnel.
According to KMS, protests erupted in the Central Jail last evening afterthe word about shifting of some inmates to the prisons outside the Kashmirvalley spread.
Indian police and troops fired pellets and teargas shells on the protestingdetainees, injuring several of them. Three barracks and a building suffereddamages amid a number of blasts inside the jail.
The occupation authorities sealed historic Jamia Masjid at Nowhatta inSrinagar, today, and prevented people from offering Juma prayers.
The authorities placed under house arrest Chairman of Hurriyat forum,Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who delivers weekly Friday sermon at the historicmosque.
Meanwhile, India’s infamous National Investigation Agency has issued athird notice to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a fake case, asking him to appear atits New Delhi headquarters on Monday for questioning.
The Mirwaiz had refused to travel to New Delhi on earlier two occasions,citing threat to his life due to the charged anti-Kashmiri atmosphere inIndia following the Pulwama incident.
The authorities booked the illegally detained All Parties HurriyatConference leader, Sheikh Danish Mushtaq, under draconian law, PublicSafety Act, today, and lodged him at district jail Kupwara.
In a statement, Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Freedom Movement, MuhammadSharif Sartaj said that the loss of precious lives and properties along theLine of Control in Azad Jammu and Kashmir due to the Indian troops’unprovoked firing was condemnable.
