Pakistan, US agree that de-escalation pivotal for peace in South Asia

Minister for Foreign Affairs Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan wanted to settle all disputes with India including the core issue of Kashmir through meaningful dialogue.

Talking to a private news channel, he said Pakistan is making sincere efforts to engage India for table talk but India is using delaying tactics to avoid the process as usual.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo telephonically exchanged views on the current regional and bilateral situations.

Both sides agreed that de-escalation is important for peace and stability in South Asia.

Foreign Minister Qureshi appreciated the US role and efforts in defusing tensions in the region.

He also urged the US to play its role for resumption of dialogue between Pakistan and India to find solutions to all outstanding disputes.

Both the leaders discussed Pakistan’s facilitating role and agreed that the US Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad’s forthcoming visit to Islamabad would provide an opportunity to further build on the gains made so far.
