Top UK business community may Invest in CPEC projects upon Pakistan offer

LONDON: Deputy Chief Executive of London Chambers of Commerce andIndustries (LCCI) and Chairman of the ICC World Chambers FederationInternational Certificates of Origin Council, Peter Bishop, called onPakistani High Commissioner to United Kingdom Mohammad Nafees Zakaria onThursday and discussed ways and means to increase the bilateral economicrelations.

According to a statement issued by the Pakistan High Commission London,they discussed trade and investment relations between Pakistan and the UKand ways and means to further increase the bilateral economic relations.

The High Commissioner briefed Peter on the prevailing business environmentin Pakistan and highlighted the growing trend of Foreign Direct Investment(FDI) into Pakistan while referring to the significant investments comingfrom China, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Turkey, UAE and other countries.

Nafees Zakaria also briefed him on the ongoing project of China PakistanEconomic Corridor (CPEC), which is a flagship project of China’s Belt &Road Initiative (BRI).

He identified business opportunities in Pakistan in particular, and theregion as a whole where Pakistan’s advantageous geographic location makesthe country as a natural economic hub and energy corridor. The Deputy ChiefExecutive undertook to work closely with the view to explore and exploitopportunities to the mutual benefit of both Pakistan and the UK.

For the meeting, Peter was joined by the Chairman Pakistan – BritainBusiness Council, Julian Hamilton, and Chief Executive Officer, RashidIqbal.

Peter is responsible for London Chambers’ international trade activitiesand for the LCCI Asian Business Association and Information Service.
