KABUL – Afghan Army General along with contingent of elite militarycommandos killed by Afghan Taliban.
The Afghan commando forces sustained heavy losses during an anti-terroroperation in Aab Kamari district of Badghis province in an attack by theTaliban when the forces were evacuating a military helicopter in the area.
Badghis governor Abdul Ghaffar Malikzai said that lack of coordination fromthe center is as the main reason for the casualties.
“Over 25 Taliban fighters were eliminated, we also had some martyrs, butthe regrettable issue is that we had no coordination,” he said.
But the Ministry of Defense (MoD) came up with a different logic, sayingcasualties among the commando forces were caused due to the complex natureof the area.
Reports say that over 30 members of the well-trained Afghan elite commandosincluding a commander were killed during the operation after the Talibanfighters launched a preemptive ambush on these forces while they wereevacuating a military helicopter in the area.
Meanwhile, the body of a prominent Afghan National Army Brigadier GeneralAbdul Mubin Mohabati was laid to rest in his hometown in the northeasternprovince of Panjshir after he was killed alongside several other members ofthe Afghan army and foreigners by a Taliban intruder in the centralprovince of Ghazni.
