Sedition charges: Kashmiri girl Shehla Rashid challenges Indian Army

NEW DELHI – Over the Sedition charges against her, Kashmiri girl ShehlaRashid challenges Indian Army to prove it.

Indian authorities booked a political leader and activist from occupiedKashmir, Shehla Rashid.

She was charged under sedition charges over her tweets in which she hadsaid that Indian armed forces tortured civilians and ransacked houses inthe disputed territory after its special status was revoked, *The Wire*reportedlinkonFriday.

Rashid, a leader of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement, called thecharges “frivolous, politically motivated and a pathetic attempt tosilence” her.

The activist had been a prominent student leader in the Jawaharlal NehruUniversity and had served as the vice-president of the students’ unionthere.

She was also charged for spreading “fake news” with the intention to“malign the image of Indian Army”, police told *PTI* on Friday.

Last month, Rashid took to Twitter and in a series of tweets alleged thatIndian armed forces entered houses in occupied Kashmir at night and“ransacked” them. She also alleged that they “interrogated” four Kashmiripeople in a camp in Shopian.
